Fayard felt inspired to write San Marcos Cinderella during the early weeks of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

"I thought it (his music career) was over," he admitted. "Considering there was nowhere to go, nowhere to play, I had plenty of time to think. And out of nowhere, this song fell in my lap, and was finished in half an hour.”
